Centro Montessori Bilingüe is a Spanish Immersion Montessori Home-based Preschool. We follow the teaching of Dr. Maria Montessori which takes to heart the needs, talents, and special individuality of each child, so that they learn in their own way, and at their own speed. The main goal of Montessori education is to promote the joy of learning.
A typical day in a Montessori classroom includes many hands on activities such as washing hands, setting a table for a meal, painting at the easel, matching language cards, counting spindles, and learning about the parts of an animal. The prepared environment allows children to interact with each other and the environment freely and unrestrained. Everything in the prepared environment is child sized, and safe to touch and use. The Montessori teaching method is cumulative and purposeful, with each learning step leading to the next level. When children are working with the material, they learn concrete concepts and later apply those concepts to abstract learning. Almost all learning tools are self-teaching and self-correcting, if a child makes a mistake he can figure out the error and correct it on the spot. The children in the Centro Montessori Bilingüe Preschool learn even more; they learn to open their minds to learn another language and prepare for a promising future. Studies show that the ideal time to learn a second language is from birth to about age 10. A child’s brain is still developing language skills at a young age and will literally create “more room” to support the second language as it develops. Any newly acquired skill, like the mastery of a second language, will bring about a feeling of self-confidence and pride, especially if a child has mastered a skill his parent does not have. This adds to the spirit of independence and even empowerment. Socially, fluency in another language allows children to be more open and understanding to other cultures. Finally, academically, learning a second language will ensure a competitive edge in the global marketplace of his or her future. Centro Montessori Bilingüe is now enrolling children ages from 2 to 6 years old. The program is run by Elizabeth Pedroza, a Montessori teacher with over 20 years of experience in traditional and Montessori education. Elizabeth started babysitting at an early age, and decided that being around children was her passion. She studied Preschool Education and began teaching in traditional schools, and later obtained her AMI Montessori Primary Diploma at The Montessori Institute of San Diego. She married a former Montessori child, and together they have three children, which are Montessori children and attend a Dual Language Spanish Immersion Program in Poway. |
